     Hi Neighbors,

Kathy just emailed asking if we are growing any fruits for the baskets this year.  I thought this would be a good opportunity to let everyone know what the plan is for fruit.

We actually have lots of fruit to look forward to, but since fruit is more of a long-range project, it will be at least a year for some things and longer for others before we see enough to include in the baskets.
Last fall, we planted a new, small orchard including cherries; peaches; apricots; Asian pears; plums and apples.
Next month, we'll be planting 70 raspberry bushes, grapes along two fencelines, and kiwis along one fenceline.
We're considering using half of the new hoop house for strawberries but those won't go in until next spring.  We'll also be growing strawberries outside.
So, yes!  Fruit is in our future, but not so much in our present : )

Hi Neighbors,

It's so nice to have almost everyone back to share the garden harvest this year!  This is just a quick update to let you know what's happening in the garden now.

We've already seeded outside: shelling peas; snap peas; snow peas; chard; collards; beets; spinach; broccoli raab; kohlrabi; turnips; onions & bunch onions.

Seeded in the greenhouse: tomatoes; sweet peppers; broccoli; cauliflower; cabbage & eggplant.

Seeded in the hoop house: Romaine lettuce

Going into the hoop house this week: tomatoes, (let's see just how early we can have ripe juicy tomatoes this year ; ).

Seeds going outside this week: several kinds of lettuce; daikon; arugula; lotsa herbs; lotsa Asian greens.

Now's the time to let me know if you have any preferences about what gets planted.  And if you'd like to come by and see what's going on in the garden, just give me a call or e-mail any time.

Linda
